Online registration is now available for the 2015 Iowa Institute for Social Action at iowasocialaction.eventbrite.com. The cost is $20 (free to students).
The event is scheduled for Martin Luther King, Jr. weekend, Sunday and Monday, Jan. 18 and 19, 2015. The Institute will be held at Saints John and Paul Parish in Altoona, Iowa.
The keynote speaker on Sunday afternoon will be Dr. Carolyn Y. Woo, president and CEO of Catholic Relief Services (CRS). Monday morning’s main speaker will be Kathie Obradovich, political columnist for the Des Moines Register, on the political landscape in Iowa and Washington, D.C. There will also be a variety of breakout sessions to prepare participants to advocate for the social concerns of the Catholic Church.
Lodging is available at the Holiday Inn Express in Altoona at a special price of $99 per night. A block of rooms is available until Dec. 27 for the evenings of Jan. 16, 17 and 18. Please note that the Midwest March for Life sponsored by Iowa Right to Life is on Saturday, Jan. 17, 2015. Archbishop Michael Jackels of Dubuque will celebrate Mass at St. Ambrose Cathedral in Des Moines at 9 a.m. to begin the Catholic involvement in the event.
