We celebrate the election of Cardinal Robert Francis Prevost, 69, as the 267th pope of the Catholic Church. He has taken the name Pope Leo XIV. Pope Leo is a member of the Augustinian order and was born in Chicago.
The previous Pope Leo is known for his 1891 encyclical letter, “Rerum Novarum,” one of the foundational documents of Catholic social teaching, addressing the condition of the working classes.
